High Heels, Hot Pants and Sneakers!

(3 Generations of Flight Attendants Talk Humor, Heart and History From The Aisle!)

1946: Bobbi graduated stewardess school with American Airlines in Manhattan, NY in one of the first classes no longer required to be registered nurses.  Bobbie was told to wear a girdle and stockings, with high heels. (“High heels” to flight attendants, who stand on their feet all day, is anything higher than an orthopedic shoe!)

1982: I graduated flight attendant training with Southwest Airlines in Dallas, TX in the first year SWA was hiring male flight attendants.  I was given hot pants and high heeled boots.  The company had iron clad panty hose for the flight attendants to buy that could hold up a bank!  The uniforms I wore, along with my holiday costumes, are historically unique.  Just part of being with an iconic airline!

2008: My daughter, Kelli, graduated SWA flight attendant training in Dallas with the first flight attendant to acquire fame rapping about our airline.   Kelli was told to wear sneakers, or Mary Jane’s, with her company issued uniform.  Her uniform; Polos and Dockers!  My, how times have changed!
Hence, the title of our book!
